balancing act

Hello readers! As you may or may not have noticed, my blog has been light on posts this week. Part of the reason for this is because I just haven’t felt inspired, but mostly it’s because I have a lot on my plate right now. This is a good thing, for the most part.

As I mentioned before, I’ve been putting a lot of time and effort into my Etsy shop lately in order to accommodate the holiday rush. It has definitely been paying off! Business has been great, and it’s so satisfying. I’ve been especially enjoying photographing my vintage Christmas stock. My family has always hung vintage mercury glass ornaments on our tree, so they hold a special nostalgic place in my heart.

I plan to wake up early tomorrow, put on some music, sip some hot chocolate, and photograph some more of these beauties.

In addition to my business, I’ve also been busy with school. I’m a graduate student in a Sociology PhD program, and for the past month or so I’ve been preparing to take a big exam right before I go home to New Jersey for Christmas. Basically, in order to get the green light to start working on my dissertation, I need to pass two comprehensive exams, which are designed to test my expertise in two different areas of Sociology. My first one was a difficult experience due to a sour relationship with the chair of my examining committee, and it took me a lot longer than it should have. I’m definitely making quicker progress this time around, but it’s still a lot of work!

As much as I’d love to spend all of my time thrifting and building my business, the fact is that I’ve committed a lot of time and energy to my doctorate, so it has to take the front seat at times. I’ll do my best to keep the blog updated a couple times a week, but once this exam is out of the way, I should be able to breathe easier and pour more of my efforts into my creative pursuits, including this one.

Have a great weekend!

Sounds like you’ve been busy! I’ve recently started collecting some vintage ornaments. I’d love to have enough to make a wreath. P.S. I love your blog background!

Thank you! I loved the background so much that I paid (not much, but an upgrade from the free options) to get it.

And yes, aren’t vintage ornaments so pretty? I don’t know if this is your cup of tea, but you can usually get big lots of them on Ebay for a good price (which is convenient for wreath-making) if you look around.
