looking forward

I try to maintain an optimistic mindset as much as possible. This can sometimes prove to be difficult, particularly in periods of high stress and uncertainty, such as when I was planning to move from Boston to Raleigh this past August. However, one thing that has always helped me to maintain a positive outlook on life has been making sure that I have something to look forward to, whether it’s a big event or a small treat.

I have a lot to look forward to right now in my life, even though I’m faced with some uncertainty regarding my professional life and education. This weekend, I’m going to be taking a day trip to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro as a belated birthday present from my boyfriend. I love the zoo and I’ve never been to this one. My number one priority is to visit with the polar bears, but I love all of the mammals the zoo has to offer. Next weekend, the NC State Fair comes to town, and this is a milestone for me since I’ve never been to a state fair. I think I’ll really enjoy the rides and I’ll have to try some of the fried treats to make sure I get the full experience.

A few other things I’m looking forward to are giving out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween, the opening of Catching Fire in late November, and, further down the road, attending my close friend’s destination wedding in Key West, Florida. Having all of these events, outings, and special occasions on my calendar keeps my life feeling exciting and gives me the opportunity to expose myself to new experiences, places, and people. Those are some of the best things in life, I think!

What are you looking forward to, and why?
